NOT JUST ABOUT MAKE UP!

  • Make Your Own Olive Oil Lip Balm

Cooking up your own lip balm may sound like a daunting task to those of us who feel a mite “challenged” in the kitchen, but it’s actually incredibly easy—seriously.

If you’re wondering why you would make your own lip balm—well, why not? Don’t you want to know exactly what you’re putting on your lovely lips? Plus, all (or at least most) of the ingredients are already in your kitchen cabinets. So give this recipe a shot and let us know what you think!

    OLIVE OIL LIP BALM

    Yields about 2 oz

    You’ll Need

    • 4 Tbsp olive oil
    • 1 1/2 Tbsp beeswax
    • 1 Tbsp rosewater
    • 2 Tbsp fresh rosemary leaves
    • Glass measuring cup with spout
    • Small sauce pan
    • Spoon to stir
    • Strainer
    • Container to store the lip balm

    Directions

    1. Combine the olive oil and beeswax in the glass measuring cup. Fill the sauce pan with two inches of water and place on stove at medium heat. Put the glass measuring cup in the sauce pan, double boiler-style.

    2. Melt the beeswax thoroughly, stirring occasionally to help the oil and wax incorporate.
    3. Once the beeswax is melted completely, add the rosewater and rosemary leaves, and turn heat to low. Continue to stir occasionally.

    4. After about 20 minutes, strain the mixture into your container or containers of choice (I like the Round Pill box from the Container Store), let sit with the lid off until the mixture hardens, and enjoy!

If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can try adding 1 tsp of brightly colored lipstick for a tinted lip balm.
